Snacks

As children have smaller stomachs than adults they often need snacks throughout the day. From 1 year of age, it is recommended by the NHS that children are given 3 main meals and 2 snacks a day.
These snacks can be a great opportunity for getting extra nutrition in to them – it can be useful to think of them as little meals. This then promotes variety of foods and can help fill them up till their next mealtime.
Here are some ideas for snacks –
Yogurt with dried fruit
Fruit slices with a peanut butter dip
Fruit slices with yogurt dip
Hummus or cream cheese with vegetable sticks
Hummus or cream cheese with breadsticks
Rice-cakes or oatcakes topped with nut butter, cheese, hummus or cream cheese.
Malt loaf with cheese

Remember dried fruit shouldn’t be eaten as a snack on its own as this isn’t very teeth friendly so try to have them as part of a mini or main meal with other foods, to protect your teeth!
