Water Bottle Flower Painting

Colourful craft activity to try at home

Looking for something crafty to do with your children whilst they’re not at school? Try out this colourful painting activity with old plastic bottles. This craft activity involves making use of old plastic drinking bottles to create beautiful paintings of flowers. All you need is:

  • Empty water bottle/s
  • Paint
  • Paper
  • Paintbrush

Firstly, gather all equipment needed and pour paint into trays- you could also use paper plates or recycled cardboard instead of trays.

On a plain piece of paper or card, use a paintbrush (or fingers!) to paint long green stems along the bottom of the page.

Then, place the bottom of the empty water bottles onto the tray of paint and dip the bottle onto the end of the painted stems you’ve painted to form colourful flowers. The ridges at the bottom of water bottles create a petal effect! Don’t forget to add a small dot in the centre of each flower too. You can experiment by using different colours to create a beautiful, colourful flower painting.

This activity is a great way to make use of materials you may have otherwise thrown away. It also gives children the opportunity to be creative and experiment with different materials and textures to make artwork. Don’t forget to clean and recycle your plastic bottles when you’ve finished!
